Electric Motors

Each electric motor core is thoroughly inspected, completely disassembled, and all wear parts are discarded. All hard parts are chemically degreased, cleaned and inspected for damage and conformance with OEM specifications. Any part that does not meet OEM specifications is replaced to meet specifications. Following assembly, all electric motors are given a thorough final inspection and tested to ensure like new performance.

Field coils are baked to evaporate water from the degreasing rinse. Burned-out field coils are replaced with new coils and connections are silver soldered. A blown lead is spliced in, and the area is reinsulated if needed. Coils are rewrapped, dipped, and baked. Connections and leads are rewrapped or sleeved as needed. Armatures are hand-cleaned. Growler, bar-to-bar, and ohmmeter testing is conducted, along with 220 volt ground testing. Armatures in need of rewinding are wound using class H insulation, preheated, double-dipped, and baked. Before turning and undercutting the commutator, the shaft is dial-indicated true within .001 of an inch. The commutator is dressed to remove any minor surface imperfections and to seat the brushes. Armatures are computer balanced to ensure smooth operation. Worn bearing housings and shafts are repaired in-house. After installation, armatures are checked for free spin and end play. New bearings and oil seals are pressed into the end frames and prelubed to prevent damage during testing. Brush holders and/or the insulator base are replaced as needed. New brushes and springs are installed.
